How the countdown works
The countdown runs to midnight at the start of the birthday, using the clock on your device. Leave the page open and it keeps ticking; come back later and it picks up where it should, because the page remembers the birthday you entered.
On the day itself the page says so and wishes you a happy birthday. The number of days is counted on the calendar, so a leap year in between is included.
Things to do with a birthday countdown
Send the link to the person whose birthday it is, or save the image for a story or a group chat. Parents use a countdown to answer “how many more days?” without doing the math every morning. If you are planning a party or a present, the calendar reminder arrives a week ahead, which is usually when it starts to matter.
More than one birthday a year
A half birthday falls six months after the real one, and is popular with people whose birthday lands on a holiday or during school vacation. Day counts give you extra ones too: 10,000 days old arrives at 27, and 20,000 at 54.
Questions people ask
How many days until my birthday?
Pick your birth month and day above. The big number is how many days are left, with tomorrow counting as 1. Under it, a clock counts the days, hours, minutes and seconds to midnight at the start of your birthday.
Why does the clock show one day fewer than the big number?
They measure slightly different things. The big number counts calendar days, the way you would count them on a calendar. The clock measures the exact time left, so partway through today it reads one whole day fewer plus the hours remaining.
Do I need to enter my birth year?
No. The month and day are enough for the countdown. Add the year if you also want to see the age you are turning, the day of the week you were born on and how many days old you are.
When do people born on February 29 celebrate?
In years without a February 29 most leap-day birthdays are celebrated on February 28, and that is what this countdown uses. Some people prefer March 1; the legal rule also differs from country to country.
Can I make a countdown for someone else?
Yes. Type their name, pick their birthday and use the share button to send it to them or keep it for yourself. The link opens the same countdown on any device.
What is a 10,000 day birthday?
It is the day you turn 10,000 days old, which happens when you are 27 years and about four and a half months old. Enter your birth year and the milestone list shows the exact date of your next round number of days.
