What you get

The main number is whole days between today and your date. Below it, the same gap is shown as weeks and days, as calendar months and days, and as working days. The clock counts down to midnight at the start of the date on your device.

Common countdowns

People use this for holidays and trips, due dates, exams, moving day, a wedding, the last day of work before retirement, and the end of a notice period. For yearly dates there are dedicated tools: abirthday countdown and ananniversary calculator.

Questions people ask

Does the count include today?

No. It counts the nights between today and the date, which is how most people count: if the date is tomorrow, the answer is 1 day. If you want to include both today and the target date, add one.

Why does the clock show one day fewer than the big number?

The big number counts calendar days. The clock measures the exact time left until midnight at the start of the date, so partway through today it reads one whole day fewer plus the hours remaining.

How are working days counted?

Working days are Mondays to Fridays after today, up to and including the target date. Public holidays are not removed because they differ by country and region, so take them off yourself if they apply.

What happens if I enter a date in the past?

The calculator switches to counting up and tells you how many days ago the date was, with the same breakdown in weeks and in months and days.

How do I count the days until an event by hand?

Count the days left in the current month, add the full months in between, then add the day of the month of the event. Or count whole weeks on a calendar and add the odd days. It is easy to be off by one, which is why a calculator helps.
